The classic WU is still around, you'd recognize it if you'd used it! Live tiles function well on tablets and I simply employ them as a desktop background.

I believe Microsoft struggles with a lot of things at once. They aimed to create an operating system that could rival Android for tablets and mobile devices, which is understandable, but they focused too much on touch interfaces and oversimplified interaction methods. The worst part is that they pushed many apps primarily for marketing purposes rather than genuine value. I don’t need another mention of Bing when Google already covers the ground.

It's perfectly simple, before heading to the Start Menu and looking for Windows Update, you can still accomplish the same task. Instead of using the Start Menu, you just access the Start Screen.

It's understandable you're feeling let down. I initially thought about offering two Windows versions—one for touchscreens/tablets/smartphones and another for desktop users. That approach would have been more inclusive. I know Windows 8 works well behind the scenes, but the overall design feels lacking.

I believe you're being too sensitive, OP. Just functions differently and it takes some time to get used to.

Clicking the option led to no choices except enabling automatic settings. The usual functionality didn't work, so I checked for updates and then saw a selection menu.
