Windows life cycle facts indicate Microsoft plans to stop supporting Windows 7 on January 13th. In December 2014 it held 56.26% of the desktop OS market share, per Net Applications. This raises the question: should you upgrade to Windows 8 now, or might support for Windows 7 continue until Windows 10 is released?

I'm using Windows 7 right now, and the upcoming machine will be Windows 7 too. Unless Windows 10 becomes a better option, I'm not sure if it's worth the switch. I prefer Windows 8 mainly because its setup feels too complicated for me.

Same here. I won’t move to Windows 8 because I hate the look. I think I’ll go with Windows 10 after the early issues are fixed and drivers get more common.

At least for our business... we won't have any customers moving to Windows 8. Absolutely not.

Never grasped the reason behind the strong dislike for Windows 8 and 8.1. I tested the first version on a laptop at a local shop and found it quite straightforward to use. I delayed upgrading to Win8 for some time, but recently acquired it and have experienced no major usability problems. It only requires a few minutes to adapt to the full-screen metro start menu, though switching it to show the desktop first makes it feel almost identical to Windows 7 in my view. Still, this comes down to personal taste. Microsoft should continue supporting Windows 7 for a while at least, just consider how long they backed Windows XP.

Many fear new changes. I won’t claim 8 is flawless, but using 10 is better still, though it’s not the same as being perfect. A business perspective does have merit here.

The updates will be released up until the extended support ends. Same was with XP. So no need to be panicking anytime soon. The end of mainstream support could already be seen when they took the OS keys/DVDs from sale and removed official DL links for different versions. So this is bigger thing for business world than it is to home users.
