No one has shared their experience about running Windows 7 on Ryzen yet. You're planning a clean install and have both a physical disc and a license key. Microsoft appears to be restricting updates for Ryzen and Kaby Lake processors, which could affect compatibility. It seems risky to use Windows 7 or upgrade to Windows 10 without ensuring full support. Using your existing key might help activate Windows 10, but you should verify the latest official guidance before proceeding.

It seems the update blocking feature is likely coming soon. You can continue using your Windows 7 key while installing or after the release of Windows 10.

I'm unsure if it will function properly, but using your Windows 7 license for an upgrade isn't possible. The one-year promotion has ended, so you'll need to purchase Windows 10 now.

I've been working on this task just a few days ago, and they simply halted the upgrade service.

W7 is compatible with Ryzen processors. Avoid letting Microsoft intimidate you into adopting their vision. Continue searching for more details—there’s a lot out there. Even Barncules posted a video about it.

You can receive security patches as long as you avoid the March 2017 "quality" update (KB4012218). Since Microsoft now bundles older fixes into newer releases, non-security updates won’t be installable. It’s risky to assume future changes—especially if processor detection is added unexpectedly. If this update becomes mandatory for future security or hidden in a patch, you’re in trouble.
