I have several Asus EB1007 EeeBox PCs and a supply of Windows 7/8 copies to update them all. That’s great! The question is which version to use—Windows 7 or 8? Most are intended for public use, but some staff machines are different. I’m considering Windows 7 for the staff side and Windows 8 for the general public. Thoughts? (hardware upgrades are unlikely, and there’s almost no chance of newer OSes soon)

I’d choose Windows 7 unless there are updates for 8/8.1.

I’d score an eight across the board and include a classic start.

Some claim Windows 8 performs better on budget devices. Let's see it for ourselves.

We should consider getting one copy of each and testing both to confirm our understanding. The Asus page lists drivers for XP and 7, but not for 8—though it’s mentioned often. I think 8 might have the drivers. Thanks for your feedback!

Sure, give it a shot with both options. Just remember to set up Ubuntu or another Linux system for the best experience.

And eventually nobody understands how to operate it, and things spiral out of control.
