ok... here is my tale of weirdness... my home network is made up of 2 main pcs and two media htpc's main use pc and gaming rig are connected to my modem/router direct ( Netgear's DGND3700 ) and one media pc ( htpc1 ) is WiFi to the DGND3700 then via a 30m cat6 cable to the linksys EA2700 router .. second media pc ( htpc2 ) is connected direct to linksys EA2700 router 2m cat6 cable a few weeks ago my htpc2 machine was dling and playing back 1080p YouTube content no hassles ... then the slowdown started.....1st playback only at 720p then soon it become un-watchable at 320 and lower ..playback of other content from networked pcs wasn't slowed started testing everything, the linksys router i was using , the 30m cat6 cable was replaced , connected direct to DGND3700 still nothing ookla test were showing a dl speed @2mbps dipping to 0.7mbps dl but strangely my htc m8 when it connected to the linksys over 5g WiFi was getting dl speeds @13mbps results now i did recall seeing the option to upgrade to windows10 popup asking if i wanted to reserve my copy but as it was just a htpc never bothered doing that , but as it turned out it soon was telling me it was "ready " to begin the upgrade ..ok...must have dl it anyways. in my researching as to what might be chewing my bandwidth up i noticed to setting that allows my win10 machines to seed updates but i stopped that and the slow down was occupying on a win7 machine not win10 machine ... was at the point of wondering if the onboard network connection was playing up and was about to go and buy a dedicated pci-e network card the next day but that night i thought bugger it might aswell do the upgrade to windows 10...which it did no hassles what so ever ... went thru and changed all the privacy stuff set most of it off sharing to microsoft etc did all required updates etc.. tested that the Store and Edge was working ok .Check.. then thought mmm it did updates very quickly wonder what my dl speed was at ....test results ..surprise surprise.. full speed back @14mbps dl now my questions.... was my windows 7 machine been used to torrent the windows 10 update with out telling me, as it had downloaded itself without me asking too....?? are other windows 7 people experiencing slow internet speeds as well ? very curious .... *note : main 2 pcs and htpc1 upgraded to windows 10 pro

The issue wasn't primarily with Windows 7; it was the GWX.exe that was responsible for the activity.
