MS seemed to plan an automatic update of Win7 during the night, and I woke up with Win10 installed on a different drive. When I attempted to boot Win7, it became stuck during configuration, then restarted after about 20 minutes before getting stuck again. It works in safe mode, but I’m unsure how to fix it there. I have the original Win7 disc, though using Startup Repair suggested it might be trying to boot into Win10 and refused. I’ve set the default OS to Win7, but haven’t tried booting directly from the drive yet. Removing the latest update didn’t help, and I can’t locate a system restore option. Any advice would be greatly appreciated—I’m considering changing my boot priority to the DVD drive to test.

In safe mode, type "restore" and it will show up in the search results.

...fair enough. I'll try that. Booting straight from the disc drive still tells me I have the wrong version of windows, with no option to pick my Win7 install.

It's due to Windows 10 interfering with the Windows 7 installer. Try using a disconnected Windows 10 drive.

The repair seems to have succeeded, but I'm checking if it causes issues the next time MS pushes an update. I could have safely unplugged the Windows 10 drive, though that feels a bit lazy. It's odd I think this update is just the usual security patch or malware removal—never caused a problem before. Nice! It’s an update that triggers a full-screen STOP WIN7 pop-up. Super cool. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...-kb4530734
