I don't believe Microsoft monitors Windows 7 license keys. I've applied my Ultimate key nine times across various machines.

I don't think there's way to check things like that other than trying to activate with it. If its OEM, risk of it not working is bigger.

I used my Win 7 Ultimate key on two PCs, and during registration on the second one it reported an existing association. I had to contact MS support and remove the key from the older device so it could link with the newer one.
