We've been chatting a bit, he's running Windows 10 Pro on his desktop while I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop—both are pretty old. I told him Win 7 is always better for me because it uses fewer resources and doesn’t have any spying from Microsoft. But what do you think about it still being a good OS in 2017? Should I upgrade?

Microsoft is backing W7 until 2020, yet they’re focusing on converting W7 users to W10. Meanwhile, Intel’s Kaby Lake appears to be performing adequately only with W10, as speedshift functions more effectively in W10 than in W7.

I think Windows 10 is actually a better choice. The surveillance concerns are pretty irrelevant. These companies already have a lot of information about us, so why worry? If you prefer Windows 7, that’s totally fine—whatever works for you. :b

This could bother some people, but using Win7 now seems unpleasant after spending a lot of time on Win10. I rely on Win7 in the office, though I really like my Win10 setup at home. (And honestly, it’s not that bad.)

Windows 10 truly outperforms Windows 7. I still run it on my laptop mainly because the drivers perform better, and I’m back using it on my Plex server due to driver compatibility.

My perspective doesn't really resonate with you, but let's be kind to one another.

It's not as if they weren't monitoring your activity on Windows 7. It's just a bit more so. Plus, any social media platform you use collects far more data than Microsoft does. I prefer Win10. Even though I dislike some of the extra features and hidden elements, I think it's generally more appealing than Windows 7.

Consider upgrading your RAM if you're running Chrome and performing basic tasks—it drops to around 52%. In games such as WoW, LoL, CSGO, or L4D2, usage reaches about 70% when playing. Listening to music on YouTube also increases the load.
