My Windows 11 has been constantly asking for updates lately. I thought I’d schedule the update over the weekend to prevent disruptions at work. Since I often use sleep mode when away, I put my PC to sleep and came back about five hours later. It rebooted and started updating automatically. The issue is more concerning: one drive has moved all my files—documents, photos, music, videos—to OneDrive and deleted my desktop icons, moving them to a folder labeled “Where have my icons gone?” I don’t use any drives, so I disable the feature and turn off auto-start on fresh installations. Backing up manually and storing copies offsite is my usual practice. But now it seems someone else decided to update and back up my data without asking me, which feels suspicious given all the steps I took earlier to block that app. Plus, I spent 30 minutes trying to restore everything to its original state—frustrating. Microsoft really should leave things alone if they’re not broken.
