Lenovo Yoga 920-13ikb BIOS 5NCN41WW is currently running Windows 11, probably upgraded from Windows 10 recently. During the help session with a laptop user from around 2017-2018, the system was functioning well without issues. I accessed the Windows Update and selected the Lenovo Firmware optional update plus the UEFI upgrade. The device restarted, prompting Bitlocker to enter recovery mode. The PC owner never saved a Bitlocker recovery key, and only one local user account was present—no Microsoft account linked. Since the other user isn’t visible, it’s possible they used a synced Bitlocker key from a Microsoft account. I asked the owner to log into their Microsoft account on another device, but they confirmed no Bitlocker device was synced there. It seems the PC owner likely received the recovery key through Lenovo during setup, not by themselves. Many users notice Bitlocker activation automatically at boot, so it’s unclear where Lenovo originally provided the key. If a BIOS rollback is attempted, it might match the checksum or TPM key, and there should be an option to revert EFI settings. Pushing a reset button could restore Bitlocker recovery mode, but this might erase the TPM key, potentially resolving the issue—but only if the key was backed up elsewhere. I’ve seen cases where changing EFI partitions triggers Bitlocker recovery, then restoring it removes the problem. I’m aware that BIOS and EFI settings differ, so there’s limited direct control. Lastly, it’s understandable that the owner lacks file backups or cloud synchronization. What alternatives should I consider? Thank you all for your help!
