Windows 11: Power failure, now I need to type passwords
I bought a portable power unit and experimented with it. It's a smart gadget, so I thought about updating its firmware. My computer was connected to it, and the device switched power while updating. I wasn't expecting that. My PC usually keeps my passwords safe without needing a new login—Steam doesn’t ask for a fresh sign-in, Chrome does, and Apple Music stays logged in too. After the power change, some apps needed me to log in again. Steam kept forcing a login every time I closed it, Chrome paused its sync and required a sign-in, and Apple Music remained active. All three were running when the power switched. What should I do?
You might consider clearing the system, but it could also be simpler to reinstall the problematic software. Wiping is effective but involves more steps.
That's frustrating. Perhaps schedule it after work so it doesn’t disrupt your tasks? I’d start by simply reinstalling Steam to check functionality before proceeding with a full reset. Also, consider clearing Chrome’s cache—it removes stored data like passwords, effectively wiping most information while keeping the app intact.
I really had no idea what to look for. The attempts I made just led me to reset my password, which wasn’t the issue. Unexpectedly, reinstalling the software solved everything. Chrome wasn’t too much of a problem, but I didn’t realize Steam would wipe all my saved games. That makes sense, though it’s frustrating with 1 TB of bandwidth I never get back again!
