Windows 11 occasionally produces strange pop sounds whenever audio plays or stops.
I'm using Windows 11 22H2 (version 22621.1413), and I encountered the same problem on Windows 10 too. My system details: CPU: R5 3600, Mobile GPU: Asus 2070 Super Strix, PSU: Corsair RM 750x, RAM: 4× Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 8GB, 3600MHz. I have a generic USB 3.0 card from Amazon (brand unknown). The laptop specs mentioned during troubleshooting were provided as a reference. On my desktop, whenever any sound starts or stops—whether it's from apps like Spotify or YouTube, or system alerts—I hear this strange brief pop. At first I assumed it was an audio interface (Behringer q1204 USB), but others tried Behringer q502, FiiO E10K, and even my motherboard’s built-in speakers without success. I checked all ports on the motherboard and the card listed in the specs, tested different USB connections, and even tried them at a friend's place. The problem persists whether the laptop is plugged in or on battery. I also suspect the wiring might be the culprit, but I’ve tried rerouting it to separate circuits. It happens even when using different power settings and in Windows on my desktop. I attempted various fixes: disabling audio enhancements, turning off other devices, adjusting power plans, changing default audio format, uninstalling the Realtek driver, reinstalling Windows. The only workaround I found is muting Spotify while playing it elsewhere—pausing playback in Spotify without other audio still triggers the pop. All these steps point to a potential Windows issue, but I’m stuck. I’m thinking about switching to Pop!OS, though it seems ironic given the problem, and I don’t have Linux versions for the tools I need (Autodesk Inventor, Adobe Creative Cloud, ETC Eos, etc.). The issue is especially bothersome when editing audio or video in Audition. Any suggestions would be really helpful.
It happens in my device too. Skipping ahead in a video triggers a small pop noise. I’m still unsure why it occurs—I experienced audio distortion during specific actions, and the solution was removing audio drivers and SteelSeries GG. Restarting and reinstalling resolved the distortion, but the pop when fast-forwarding remains.
I haven’t experienced any problems with cracking, yet I do notice popping sounds when skipping forward or backward in a video.
