Windows 11 installation issues with Ethernet or Wi-Fi drivers? You're unable to log in using Microsoft services.
I encountered a peculiar problem after upgrading to a 9800x3d system from a 12700k in mid-August. Using the freshly made Windows installation files, I installed Windows 11 Home during setup. While checking for my home network connection and Microsoft account login, I noticed no Ethernet or Wi-Fi signal. Despite having a motherboard that supports wireless connections, both options were absent. Even basic Windows versions didn’t display anything. The screenshot I shared reflects this exact scenario.
To try accessing a USB drive, I followed the "connect me" instructions but found nothing—no Ethernet or Wi-Fi detected. I attempted to use the setup wizard to install drivers, only to discover the folder was empty and no files present. This made it impossible to complete the driver installation.
I tried creating a local user account using OOBE and signed in with it, but the Microsoft account login failed. Switching to another local user worked temporarily. However, changing my username didn’t resolve the issue; it stayed labeled as "temp." I had to create yet another local account with my name and sign into my Microsoft account again.
Some software functions were initially problematic, especially OBS, but overall the system operated smoothly afterward. The password expiration warning later added stress—my Microsoft account required a PIN after setup, which forced me to reset it manually using CMD. All applications logged me out after the change, requiring repeated sign-ins.
I ran a command in PowerShell to check my local user settings, but it didn’t confirm whether my password was set to never expire. Since I’m using Windows 11 Home, I can’t modify user accounts via lusrmgr.msc. If I need another reset, I plan to restart and reinstall Windows to fix these account-related glitches.
I’m still trying to figure out how to avoid this "no internet" situation during installation. My goal is to have a seamless login experience without relying on external accounts. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your support.
The driver installation window during OOBE requires the unprocessed driver files (.inf/.sys) typically found in an x64 directory, not a standalone executable. From Shift-F10 you can open explorer.exe and then navigate to or run an executable installer if needed.
