Review your PC specifications in your profile before replying. I noticed a concerning problem with my system; it frequently restarts unexpectedly. I’ve tried several fixes: reinstalling graphics drivers, adjusting fan speeds for cooling, ensuring all Windows updates are applied, and checking for memory issues. Despite these steps, the issue persists. It’s strange how it keeps happening even when I’m not using the computer. What could be causing this?

Open the Event Viewer, navigate to Administrative Events. Check for any errors or warnings there.

A recent solution involved searching with the command prompt, launching the black window in admin mode via right-click, then running sfc /scannow. Let me know if it resolved any issues.

I handled both tasks. In Event Viewer there were 12 critical issues in the last 24 hours, all reporting the same message: the system restarted without a clean shutdown. This might result from the system freezing, crashing, or losing power unexpectedly. There are also 401 errors and 450 warnings. The most recent one concerns System Restore failing, followed by warnings about Windows Hello not launching (though I don’t use it) and some DistributedCOM issues referencing random CLSIDs and APPIDs. After running "sfc /scannow", corrupt files were detected and repaired. For online fixes, the CBS log at windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log contains details. Online repairs have logs with the /OFFLOGFILE option. I’m unsure if this resolved everything; I’ll update the post if needed.

It’s suggested to execute DISM and chkdsk commands first before checking or repairing the system. These steps refresh and fix the image after the "sfc" tool works. Also, please let me know how long the system has been running—whether it was working smoothly before or if problems began later. Is this a desktop or laptop?

I suspect I might have resolved the issue. I can't remember exactly when I made these changes, but it seems I adjusted some BIOS settings, particularly the "Precision Boost Overdrive" to 'Advanced'. I turned that off, and suddenly there were no more unexpected restarts. I was worried about needing a CPU replacement, but fortunately it wasn't that severe. I don't think any lasting harm occurred, though I'll be more cautious next time I overclock.
