Hey guyz, So here is the full story, I was enrolled in BETA CHANNEL in windows insider around 4 days ago. All was fine but suddenly my PC shutdown saying installing windows update. And after that update my Laptop would increase its memory usage to 50-95% in a few minutes. Being a tech savy myslef I troubleshooted all the options but I could not manage to see what consuming it so much. I have 8GB btw. So fed up of Windows Insider I reinstalled normal windows (A CLEAN ONE FROM BOOTABLE USB) and installed all my required softwares and drivers and checked the Task Manager hoping to be showing normal ram usage. But NO! Same usage as windows insider. I rechecked wether I didn't enrolled in it again but that was not the case. I checked resource monitor, Task Manager and many other things. Not able to find a culprit. Though after restart it goes back to normal but after few minutes climbs back to HIGH RM USAGE. I have also attached SS of the problem. I will be grateful to any help!

Have you attempted a full clean installation without any extra programs to check if the issue arises from a completely pristine setup? If not, proceed by installing one software at a time, allowing sufficient time for the problem to manifest. If it persists, move on to the next software and continue the process until you identify the culprit.

Thanks for your assistance! To be honest, as a student I don’t usually spend much time setting up software or troubleshooting issues. This problem didn’t exist before I received a confusing beta update. It performed perfectly for about eight months. But that update seems to have caused something unexpected. Even after opting out of insider access, my RAM usage kept increasing. I suspect a serious memory leak in Windows affecting certain users. Also, do you think the apps I have installed might be causing this? And I don’t think major programs like Microsoft Teams or Office are likely to be the cause.

Uncertain what to expect and its absence from the task manager raises questions—possibly a driver problem or a missing core service in Windows. It's worth noting that it shouldn't feel like the system is running out of RAM. Checking the Performance and Memory sections for the Cached tab can help clarify if the high usage is temporary cache or a genuine issue.

I just realized double-checking my PC with 32GB RAM shows only used memory, not including cache. It’s still puzzling what’s happening. On the other hand, the same machine running almost nothing uses about 4.1GB, and everything in Task Manager appears significantly lower than that, indicating there must be something Task Manager isn’t showing.

Yep TASK MANAGER doesn't display anything left over from software or temporary caching. I might have identified the issue—it's related to the game I'm playing. By chance, while I was playing it, the RAM usage increased. That game is known for memory leaks and leaves remnants in RAM. After quitting, the task manager's RAM doesn't return to its previous state even after a fresh reboot. The game is Assassin's Creed 3. Microsoft should provide clearer information about what occupies their RAM, including any ghost data that remains inactive.

I discovered the genuine version unexpectedly—I have no idea why, but it came from an internet browser, specifically BRAVE. Whenever I tried to launch it, the high usage would definitely appear. I removed it and switched to GOOGLE CHROME; I went back to BRAVE later. Now, with CHROME’s high RAM consumption being completely absent, it’s strange that BRAVE was the cause even after a fresh install. I used it for several months without issues, but this keeps happening anyway. Thanks, Alex Atkin UK, for your help!
