i own an acer aspire a717-72g laptop. i’m not sure if i made a mistake, but it used to work when i connected my cell phone or any usb device—it would show a window asking what i wanted to do, like opening folders. now it doesn’t do that at all. today i plugged in an external hard drive and turned it on; i could see it starting up, but it didn’t appear under MY PC, instead showing another drive. i also didn’t get prompted with any options. when i opened disk management, the drive was listed there, but i had to click it, right-click, and choose change drive letter and path before it would show up properly under MY PC. now i’m confused about what’s happening with my laptop—it doesn’t automatically recognize or open drives like it used to. maybe i accidentally turned something off? i’m not sure what to do next. any suggestions would be appreciated?

Check the Windows 11 USB autoplay settings. There might be an option to enable or disable it, depending on its current state.

i have two drives, one with 2 tb and another with 4 tb. but it doesn't matter only that both were automatically selected and i was told what to do. then it stopped. i turned off auotplay and turned it back on, and now it seems to be working again.

That's great, it should be noted that some size drives won't appear unless formatted, which isn't a problem from your post. It's good to know it's working for you.
