I'm really puzzled by this problem. It's been happening since I moved to Windows 11 a few months ago, affecting both Edge and Chrome. Sometimes they freeze briefly when opening a new tab. At first I thought it was Edge because I used it as my main browser, but then it happened with Chrome too. I haven't experienced this on Windows 10 and didn't add any new extensions. Disabling them all didn't help much. It seems to occur most often while watching videos from YouTube or Netflix. I've tried turning extensions back on one by one, but nothing resolved it. What's strange is that pressing the + button to open a blank tab causes the whole browser to freeze for about five seconds before it works again. Once it does, I can open multiple tabs without issues. It's inconsistent and hard to reproduce reliably. I'm not sure what to do except maybe a full reinstall of Windows, which I did recently. If it was just Edge or Chrome, it would point to the program itself, but both have the same issue. The system specs are pretty similar from Win10: Ryzen 7 2700X, 32GB RAM, RTX 2080 Ti, two NVMe SSDs and one SSD drive. P.S. I haven't tested Firefox yet since I never used it.

Edge and Chrome function quite alike in the background, offering comparable performance. While this isn't a solution, check if other browsers like Firefox behave similarly.

Could be a GPU performance issue, based on my recent Windows 11 experience where this has remained a consistent challenge...

I used Firefox recently and everything worked smoothly. Still, I won’t be changing to it anytime soon.

It might work. However, disabling acceleration on any site that relies on it could cause performance issues...

Hey, did you manage to locate a solution? The same problem appears in Chrome and Edge but not in Firefox. In Chrome, the freezing rate has dropped after disabling hardware acceleration, though it still occurs and scrolling can feel sluggish when that setting is off. Edge experiences similar behavior, matching Chrome’s issues. Your system specs are HP Envy X360 I7 1250U with 16GB RAM and Intel Iris Xe graphics running Windows 11 Home, latest stable version 22H2.
