I’m frequently caught in a light slumber while thinking life is enjoyable.

I frequently need to set up Windows 10 before performing the upgrade to 11 so activation works. The keys for my two custom versions stop functioning after installing Windows 11 and I can't activate the system afterward. My Dell machine also supports installation with 11 even though it was initially running Windows 10.

Currently not using Windows 10. Thinking about moving to Windows 11. An in-place upgrade isn't possible because TPM and Secure Boot settings aren't enabled. I remember upgrading from Windows 7 to 10 required an in-place upgrade for my key, but I wasn't sure if the same applies to Windows 11.

I found my Windows 7 product key somewhere during the upgrade to Windows 10, but it’s not easily accessible anymore. It seems the support team closed that issue, so I only have the digital license linked to my account. I won’t buy a Windows 11 license; I’ll keep using Windows 10 until it’s no longer available.

Refer to the relevant discussion on Microsoft Answers for guidance on transferring a Windows 10 license to a new build.

After reviewing several discussions and chatting with a friend, it looks like Windows 11 might work differently depending on whether you log in with your MS account. Some threads mention a BIOS update could trigger the system to recognize a new machine, though some posts seem unhelpful from Microsoft. I’m sticking with version 10 for now. I plan to reinstall it with TPM and Secure Boot activated, which will let me upgrade later if needed.
