In short, a few months back I moved a game from high to normal priority in Task Manager. That’s the only action that seemed to cause overall system slowdown and my CPU fan to work erratically. I tried all sorts of adjustments—BIOS tweaks, reseating fans and chips, reapplying thermal paste, changing power plans, etc. When I finally gave up, I reinstalled Windows. The issue kept coming back after the reset, leading me to suspect a hardware fault, even though stress tests indicated no hardware problems. My main worry now is that reinstalling Windows might have affected things, especially since I installed it in Legacy-BIOS mode instead of UEFI. I read about using MBR2GPT to switch from MBR to GPT and thought maybe firmware updates could help change BIOS settings. Another concern is the new Windows Feature Update 2004—before reinstalling, I tried it to fix lag, but it actually caused issues with my webcam mic, making me sound robotic in apps like OBS, Discord, or Audacity. I changed drivers, adjusted HD Audio settings, and even tested on another machine, which didn’t help. In short: the lag seems linked to a BIOS/UEFI mix-up, possibly hardware-related, and the webcam mic problem appears software-based. This is like breaking something and gluing it back together—hard to fix the damage except by turning things up, like XMP settings. If you’ve seen this before, I’d appreciate any advice on resolving these issues.
