Windows 10 update started instantly but something went wrong.
Hey there, so I just moved from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I thought during setup I could reset my PC before installing, but probably not. So I waited a bit and once the drivers updated it got stuck at 6% and then at 32%, which was really frustrating. I rebooted using the reset button and it went back to Windows 8.1... Then I looked up the Windows Update warnings and found an issue labeled C1900101-30018. I searched for it online and discovered a problematic process I didn’t want to tackle. Since I don’t have a Windows 10 license, I can’t install it via ISO or media drive. Here are the steps I followed: [link provided]. Disable your antivirus before starting the upgrade, restart several times, turn off general USB devices (like smart card readers), ensure you have drivers for your SCSI hard drive on a thumb drive, and during setup click Custom Advanced Options to load the right driver. If that fails, switch to an IDE-based drive. Perform a clean boot and try again. If using an .ISO file, disconnect from the internet during installation—if connected by LAN/Wi-Fi, disable both and retry. When updating via Windows Update, disconnect from the internet when the download is 100% if you’re online, or proceed after disconnecting if you’re on a network. If all else fails, switch to a local account if you’re in a domain. Unplug any external devices like controllers, USB drives, printers, etc. If you’re using Windows Update, press Windows + X, choose Command Prompt, stop services like wuauserv, cryptSvc, bits, msiserver, then rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folders. Restart BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer, and Windows Update Services as instructed. Exit the prompt and restart your computer. Many people have faced similar problems and had to go through this. I’m considering skipping the upgrade unless it fixes itself automatically. Unless I can get W10 installed quickly, I might just wait a few more weeks. Any advice would be appreciated.
Another solution to the issue I faced with a laptop at work (same error code). This update also fixed another problem on an ASUS laptop where it would crash during an upgrade. Just perform a clean installation of your drivers. I’m unsure about AMD Radeon cards, but for Nvidia, open the driver settings and look for the “Advanced” option, then verify the box for a fresh install. Also remove any Nvidia 3D Vision settings. Installing the newest version without a clean setup doesn’t resolve the issue.
