Current problem: My Acer factory PC runs Windows 8.1. Sometimes it demands an update, but whenever it reaches 99%, it warns me that the update can't be completed and advises not to turn off the computer. It takes over an hour before I can use it again. Changing the update options didn’t help at all. It still forces updates on me.

Windows 10 issue: When I press the Windows icon in the taskbar to upgrade to Windows 10, the pop-up appears correctly, but it keeps saying "please wait." I’ve tried restarting and closing/opening the window, but the loading circle remains spinning and nothing else appears. I’d like to upgrade, but there’s nothing I can do until I get more choices, and I’m not sure. All other PCs in my house are working fine—it’s just mine.

Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Halt the "windows update" process (Open services.msc) Clear all files in: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution Restart the "windows update" service Then look for updates. It should re-download everything, possibly fixing a corrupt file.
