Windows 10 struggles to recognize audio channels.
Hello. I own a PC equipped with an Audio Realtek ALC892 chipset. It connects to an AV Receiver via HDMI, and then the receiver links back to a TV through another HDMI connection. The problem is that Windows doesn’t automatically detect the number of audio channels in video or audio files. Consequently, I have to manually adjust settings—choosing Stereo (2 channels) for music or 5.1 surround for movies. For instance, if a file has 5.1 channels but my settings are set to Stereo, Windows won’t switch automatically. This is frustrating because a 50$ TV box could handle this more efficiently and correctly identify the channel count. Is there any way to configure Windows so it always sends the right number of channels based on the source file? I haven’t installed the Realtek audio drivers yet, but I’m not sure if that would help.
Thank you for your message. On the MSI website for my motherboard, I notice two audio drivers listed: Realtek HD Universal Driver and Realtek High Definition Audio Driver. The Realtek HD Universal Driver is a general-purpose audio solution, while the High Definition Audio Driver is optimized for better sound quality. Choose the one that matches your system needs—consider your audio requirements and compatibility before deciding.
I've finally downloaded the first file. It seems the sound isn't coming from the Realtek chipset but rather the NVidia graphics cards. Perhaps I made a mistake. Even after installing the Realtek drivers, the problem persists. Could it be because I'm not using the audio interfaces that Realtek controls?
