Windows 10 refuses to install AMD graphics driver updates.
Whenever I attempt to set up graphics drivers (AMD Radeon RX 6900XT), Windows tends to automatically update itself and install a version that's several years out of date. (Device Manager shows this as 3/30/23.) After using DDU, applying the newest driver and restarting the system, I encounter a warning about changed hardware settings and are prompted to reboot for it to apply. If I do, Windows will then revert to an older VGA driver. When launching AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, it reports incompatibility with the current driver version. The challenge is stopping Windows from attempting to reinstall the outdated driver while keeping my setup functional.
It seems there could be a compatibility challenge when using both a Vega graphics card and an RDNA-based GPU together. After further checks, it appears that after installing the latest updates, Device Manager only lists the 6900XT for the 5700G, while the 6900XT remains visible. The AMD driver page shows the 24.3.1 release, which differs from the version linked to the 6900XT. Downloading the 24.3.1 file changes behavior compared to the original 6900XT setup. Installing the RDNA-compatible driver resolves most issues, though the PC restarts without reverting to the 2023 driver. The display output defaults to 1Hz when using the version named after Vega.
That update didn't succeed; it returned to the driver version from March 2023.
If it doesn't want to, give it a quick hit and skip the microwave. Doing so will only worsen things. Just turn off the automatic updates—it should work. I still believe in you.
