I configured particular access rights for the shared directories, mainly restricting them to read-only, but anyone on the network can still edit and add files. What should I do?

Shared folders contain two configurations with the tightest constraints. On the share page and security options, explore both.

I removed the folder access completely (no longer shared) yet it remains visible and anyone can modify it.

It will require a bit of time... a restart could help resolve the issue more quickly.

A restart was performed and the folder remains reachable for everyone.

If you search for \\computername in Explorer, you should be able to view the shares. Is that folder visible now?

The issue seems to involve network permissions and access controls. Since the folder has read-only access, adding specific computers might not grant write rights. Try adjusting the permissions on the network level or using a different folder structure to ensure proper access.

After fifteen minutes the directory reappears with the same issue (and I can actually see it in File Explorer). To fix it, I changed its permissions to shared but restricted to admin only, which works for now.

Welcome to SMB nightmare... 3.1.1 for win11. Which systems are trying to connect? Returning to access from another system won't work. If computers aren't part of a domain, you won't get access to other local user databases—they operate as separate security units. Only when integrated into a domain with a domain administrator can you reach local user databases and share files using a user from that database.

What? I didn't grasp anything about this... The only part that makes sense is "you can access each local user database and add them to a share." How do I do that? All Windows 10s, most are home editions, with 1 being a pro edition.
