In my view, working on 8.x/10 systems requires a solid processor like Core 2 Duo or Pentium Dual Core @ 2.66GHz, 4GB RAM, and a fast 7200RPM drive—ideally an SSD would be better. Even with SATA2, having 6-8GB of RAM helps. If you're still using a Duo, D, or P4, I’d suggest purchasing a Q6600 from eBay for around $20. It would sufficiently upgrade the system for everyday tasks and light gaming.
