I own an ASUS X452EA that started with Windows 7 and was upgraded to Windows 10 for a while. It ran smoothly until recently. About a month ago, I installed a major Windows update. It required a restart and was quite disruptive. Initially, I assumed it would work fine. After restarting, when trying to turn it back on, the update progress got stuck at 32% and didn’t advance. I left it overnight but still saw the same percentage. Eventually, I had to reset the laptop. Data remained intact, though applications were missing. It’s happened more than seven times now. I changed the update settings to prevent automatic updates and only restarted when necessary, but it’s still frustrating. This update keeps failing to install, so I have to manually manage shutdown and restart options. Please help—I’m sorry for the poor English, and I haven’t used it much lately. Thanks!

Tried a new layout and reinstall, but the reset didn’t fully wipe the SSD.

I haven't tried it, to be honest. I'm a bit nervous about whether it'll work and might waste time. Since I'm working on my thesis, it feels risky. Could you explain what's happening? Are there similar cases?

Possibilities - 1) software issues 2) hardware problems might stem from a corrupt Windows update due to improper shutdowns or the PC sleeping during updates, causing it to stall at installation. Clearing the system and performing a fresh install could resolve this. Before doing so, run the built-in diagnostics on the laptop to assess hardware health, which should appear in the BIOS. Reformatting and reinstalling usually takes no more than an hour, but if hardware is faulty, it's best to proceed with diagnostics first to confirm.

Consider removing the cache files from Windows Update first. http://ccm.net/faq/2471-how-to-purge-the...date-cache
