The problem: My Windows 10 setup is experiencing serious difficulties where the system freezes completely, and the only way to restart it is by performing a hard reset on my case. When this occurs: The situation consistently arises after leaving the computer for any period, though I initially believed it might happen otherwise. Recently, I discovered the root cause—my PC remains locked with the Windows key plus L pressed, staying inactive on the lock screen. Occasionally, when I return, the monitor turns off, keyboard caps lock activates, number and scroll locks illuminate, but no input is possible. The machine stays powered on with fans spinning, hard drive ticking, and network lights flashing, yet it doesn’t respond at all. I’ve tried updating drivers, checking for lock functionality, testing mouse and keyboard, verifying monitor signals, and even considered a fresh OS install. The temporary fix I’m using is frustrating because pressing the reset button risks erasing data. I’m really struggling and need advice—anyone with experience should have solutions. Please help! Also, thanks for the bonus nachos if you solve this quickly! P.S. $5 CAD for a working fix (if allowed by rules).

You prefer not to get a fresh install because it can disrupt your current setup and may introduce unexpected changes.

The kernel crashes can lead to issues like faulty drivers or hardware problems such as insufficient RAM. Consider removing a few RAM sticks and testing on a different PC. Look for ways to capture kernel logs, though I’m unsure how to do that on Linux.

Consider skipping USB devices, they could cause issues...

Update for y'all: I turned off auto sleep on the display via Windows and then left my PC on the lock screen for more than half an hour without any crashes. I can't say for sure it's fixed since the problem only occurs occasionally, which might just be one of those rare times. It could still be a positive sign.

Sorry for the delayed response, I've been out of the loop for a while. Yep, I have Speccy.

Attempt to remove it, strangely the Windows 7 setup seems affected by Windows 10

No sources confirm speccy as the issue. The problem appears unrelated to speccy and may stem from another factor.
