Each time I attempt to download Windows 10, this error appears (code 0xc1900101 - 0x20017). Someone mentioned disabling a core on the CPU, but it didn’t help unless they were done correctly. Need advice. Thanks.

I'm using a standard download method for Windows 10, typically through an official website or a trusted source.

The most probable reason for this issue is a mismatched driver or hardware issue essential for starting the intermediate setup required to carry out upgrades. Because of the timing of the problem, it’s often hard to find logs, crash dumps, or other diagnostic data to help pinpoint the exact cause.

Ensure you’re not using any encryption software on your drive. If applicable, decrypt your storage before proceeding with an update to Windows 8.1.

Look for and remove any desktop utilities you might have installed, such as IOBit or Intel Desktop Utilities (including Extreme Tuning, except Managed Engine). This has been reported to resolve the problem.

Older NFORCE drivers may not function with Windows 8.1. Verify your graphics card is compatible and that you’ve installed the most recent NVIDIA drivers.

Disconnect all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse, then attempt the upgrade again.

Avoid any SteelSeries products that include the SteelSeries Engine; the software isn’t supported on Windows 8.1. Uninstall it before updating.

Consider disabling or removing antivirus programs to test if the upgrade succeeds.

For more details, refer to Microsoft’s guidance on this error when attempting to upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1.

Do you have any suggestions on how to handle this situation unless another person comes up with a solution?

However, in simpler terms... Just start fresh and exit the upgrade process. It will prevent many issues down the road.

He’s likely just downloading it without any driver issues. @silentgamer1 Do you also want to install it?

The issue occurs exclusively during an upgrade installation. Custom installations cannot resolve it.

I attempted a fresh setup but the system became stuck at startup, then I powered it down and waited five minutes before trying to boot from the USB. This indicates another issue beyond a simple clean install.
