Windows 10 installation issue detected at address 0xc0000185 following a fresh setup.
Hello. I assembled a PC for a friend, and everything functioned smoothly for two days. Suddenly, during startup we encountered a drive repair error, but Windows remained operational. Upon restart, the BSOD appeared with code 0xc0000185. I attempted fixes using online resources and performed a complete system reinstall. The issue persisted, resurfacing after a few restarts. I explored various solutions—repair utilities, CMD tools, different operating systems, custom boot media—but consistently encountered the same fatal error ID 41. I resolved it by adjusting power settings. The hardware specs are: CPU i5 13600k, Mainboard Gigabyte B760m DS3H, RAM Kingston Fury Beast 2x16GB at 5600MHz, GPU MSI 4070 Ti M.2, 1TB NVMe SSD, and a 850 MHz processor with Windows 10 Pro. I haven’t tried a BIOS update yet, though I previously bricked the motherboard, so I’m hesitant to attempt that now. No logs were saved because no further repair methods worked, leaving me with the option of wiping the SSD on another machine and starting fresh.
This error usually indicates damaged files. It may stem from software issues or hardware problems. Consider using a different drive as the boot source. A disconnected or faulty data/power cable can also lead to this. Good luck!
