Hello, your friend’s laptop was purchased without an operating system and is having issues setting up Windows 10. It isn’t detecting any drives. The model is a Vivobook 15 X513E SSD with an SSDPEKNW configuration. The Windows setup guide from Microsoft was downloaded from the official site using a media creation tool. Attempts to create a USB drive via that method and to download the ISO followed by using Rufus with a GPT partition scheme didn’t work. A screenshot of the UEFI is available here: https://i.imgur.com/vW6hQtP.jpg https://i.imgur.com/tgDHYg6.jpg https://i.imgur.com/FHuPooK.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/gAmvgwu.jpg The system’s BIOS information is also provided. The storage drives are blank and there’s nothing to modify. It seems others have faced similar challenges. You might want to try a different USB drive or consult a technician for further assistance.

I would also open it and attempt to reinstall the SSD. It's difficult for an M.2 drive to detach, though it's possible. Do you have another computer with an M.2 port that you could use to install Windows on the drive there, then return it to your laptop to check if the issue lies with the drive or the laptop? If not, you may need to run diskpart with the install USB and format the drive, or verify if it's being detected at all.

Oops, seems like the disk partition isn’t recognized by DiskPart. I’m not keen on buying a brand-new notebook unless absolutely necessary. If that doesn’t help, I’ll return it for replacement. I’ll attempt to boot into Linux first—see if it shows up there.

The problem likely relates to BIOS settings or a driver, as the SSD appears functional in the initial images. Check the Rapid Storage section within BIOS. Consider using a Linux live USB to test the drive.

Yeah, I tried. There's drive shown as non-raid and I can press on it to see more info about it. Nothing else.

Consider visiting the provided link for assistance. Download the IRST driver, place it onto a USB stick, and attempt to install it during setup. Even if it doesn’t succeed, it might help.

The file doesn't contain an IRST driver. I attempted to install it from the provided link, but there was no success.

OMG. Saving drivers from the ASUS site. On many drivers, pressing show all reveals older versions, while the chipset version lists storage driver too. This interface is really confusing.

Hello, I encountered the same issue and discovered you need to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver (from Asus, not the generic one) on the installation USB drive. I wasn’t able to locate it on the Asus page—whether they’re facing any issues isn’t clear since the page is empty. Instead, I downloaded it via the MyAsus app, which comes preinstalled on my PC. Finally, I had to extract the files before copying them to the USB key. During installation, you can load the driver from the USB drive. The SSD will be recognized and existing partitions will appear normally. Hope this helps, Dany.
