Attempted to upgrade Windows 10 from version 21h1 to 22h2 using an ISO file from the official Microsoft website, which was installed via PowerISO. After launching setup.exe, the process proceeded normally until the 100% install finished. At that point, it displayed a warning to automatically reboot the PC, but instead presented an error stating "Windows 10 installation has failed." I've also run various troubleshooting steps: System File Checker, DISM, clean boot, disabling Windows Defender (no third-party antivirus), switching to an admin account. Creating a new user showed issues too—only appearing in safe mode, with a black screen and flickering taskbar. Recently, I encountered disappearing user accounts. I attempted to update Windows using settings and the Windows 10 update assistant, but it returned error code 0x8007001f. I've executed multiple administrative commands via CMD (net stop, net start, etc.) and reviewed system files and registry entries. Additionally, I accessed the event viewer logs via a provided link for further analysis.

Usually upgrading to Windows 11 requires no additional downloads. For a fresh installation, just install the media creation tool, use it, and create a bootable USB drive. You won’t need to mount anything with PowerISO. Here’s the link to the tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software.../windows11

Upgrading to Win11 isn't urgent right now, and it may not be as smooth as hoped. The updates have been problematic lately, and limited storage could be the main issue. Would you like to revert the change?

Also, have you considered trying this workaround? "A few days ago I encountered the same issue with the 24h2 update. There was no way to install that software. I checked setuperr.log and found an insufficient TAGREF array error in some C++ files. One suggested fix was to remove profiles from regedit. (I followed this link: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...f63511d379) which had similar changes to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList. I didn't try it, but I lost some virtual machines and context afterward—though now I have successfully installed 24H2. Perhaps this could assist you? Best regards, MW"
