Recently, Windows 10 has begun producing random hardware disconnect noises on my desktop. I’m unsure where they’re coming from. All my peripherals function normally, and there are no unusual sounds when I check. The noises occur unpredictably—sometimes hours apart, other times multiple times an hour. I’m wondering if the issue might relate to my external USB SSD entering sleep mode or something similar. However, since the drive never leaves File Explorer and I can’t recreate the problem by briefly waking it up, that doesn’t seem likely. How should I investigate further to identify the cause?

Open Event Viewer, navigate to System, look for disk removal events. The Xbox feature on Windows seems to be causing issues with mounting and unmounting VHD files.
