Game Mode didn't affect me in any way. It might have been related to how the game runs in borderless windowed mode, making it seem like it was in full screen. The difference is minor, and my system isn't powerful enough—it's quite old. It has an Intel Core i7 930 at 2.8GHz, 6GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 680, and a 256GB SSD. Microsoft mentioned that performance improvements are more noticeable with UWP games because they have more layers between the game and hardware. This should help it reach Win32 standards. Keep in mind this feature is still under development, and Microsoft plans to enhance it further after the release. Game Mode should appear in Windows 10 Creators Update (Redstone 2) during March or April. Redstone 3 is expected by year-end if there are no delays. If these updates arrive, you might see them at the end of the year.
I set up the newest Insider preview version of Windows 10 with game mode yesterday. It doesn’t offer any performance gains. It also turns on the Game DVR, which actually harms graphics performance. After a few test runs, I switched it off. It’s still just a beta release, so the next update might bring some changes. I’ll check back later to see if anything improves.
