I replaced my HDD with a fresh Windows 10 setup since the old one was broken and interfering with apps. After the switch, the system ran slow even for simple work. Previously, I could achieve smooth 60+ frames per second on high settings in God of War, but now it stutters heavily and drops below 10 FPS. I reviewed performance metrics and noticed CPU and GPU usage were low. I updated Windows completely, waited for drivers to update, but the lag persisted. In Task Manager, I see the system, Windows installer worker, COM Surrogate, and USO core services are using 100% disk.

This happens because the update is working to refresh your system or add new drivers.

You set up an HDD and an optical drive. The damaged drive was an older model. No additional hardware modifications were made.

I noticed you're experiencing consistent performance on the same drive since Windows 10 installation. It's been this way for over an hour now, and there haven't been any significant slowdowns. Do you think it will stabilize soon?

I have a TOSHIBHA P300 7200 RPM 2 TB HDD. The drive itself remained intact, but the operating system was affected. Windows stopped functioning properly after several reinstalls, and I couldn't get it to start no matter what method I tried (including using KMS). The Nvidia overlay and recording features also failed repeatedly, requiring multiple restarts. Yes, I simply installed Windows on top of the existing drive.

Recommend backing up all your files to an external storage. After that, reformat and clean-install Windows 10 on your drive C: with the same login details you previously used. This ensures the new Windows boots automatically.

Obtain a 2.5" SATA SSD. @RMTM An HDD isn't an optical drive.

It seems the query was about whether the OP asked for HDD or optical options, and that was addressed previously. Thank you for clarifying.

It seems you're dealing with delays in completing your setup, especially if you're trying to upgrade to an SSD or if partitions weren't fully removed during installation. I suggest opting for a reasonably priced 250GB SATA SSD around $30—it's now essential for Windows 10 and avoids compatibility issues with HDDs.
