Windows 10 for Windows users
Windows 10 for Windows users
Hello, I once downloaded Windows onto my 2TB hard drive instead of using the SSD, thinking I could switch it to the primary boot setting in BIOS. It turned out I needed to install Windows on the SSD as well. Now I’m forced to partition both drives back to their original sizes and erase them before reinstalling. This time I’ll download Windows again onto my SSD. I purchased the Windows 10 OEM key here: https://www.kinguin.net/category/22175/w...sbooster=1... I’m curious, after re-installing, will my product key still function? Will I need to buy a new license if everything works? I plan to use the same PC and motherboard. If it does, will the key be limited only to this monitor or can I use it on any connected display? Also, since I’m thinking about replacing my screen before reinstalling, I might skip the whole process altogether.
You were curious about how that question came up. It seems the PC can run on another monitor, though each time you switch your keyboard, mouse, or headphones you have to reinstall Windows for some reason. The fact that Windows is on the same drive as the boot media makes sense to me. However, it looks like you might need to download Windows onto your SSD as well. No, Windows doesn’t require installation on both drives simultaneously; just ensure the license is still active since many stolen keys can be deactivated over time.
@Supahh Yes, your key will work. It's usually tied to your Motherboard or your Microsoft profile and, I believe you can transfer a license 2-3 times? If you do change your Motherboard. Before reinstalling Windows it might be a good idea to create a Microsoft account and, log into it with your PC for easier license activation. I usually just do that and then create a local account after. Here's a video by Linus on the topic: Spoiler
Did you delete the installation media and set "Windows Boot Manager" as the preferred boot option?
