The issue arises because your display settings are configured for multiple displays, causing it to show the file explorer on two screens. To fix it, adjust the display settings, select advanced display options, switch to showing only one display, and apply the changes.

My suggestion was very helpful, buggy2k! After moving into a new home and not linking my second screen, I finally connected it. Once Explorer was open, everything worked instantly! I wouldn’t have figured it out otherwise, and I was close to reinstalling Windows 10. Really appreciate you saving me a lot of trouble!

If you see the File explorer window, but the content is empty, it is because Windows is waiting for a drive to respond. -> It could be a SATA driver issue. Make sure you install the latest SATA drivers for your SATA controller -> It could be you have a maps networked drives that File Explorer can't connect to, so you have to wait for it to time out (if you have multiple of them, you'll need to wait longer) -> A drive is not responding (faulty SATA cable, or not connected properly, or the drive is busted). This can also happen with USB external drives, and USB flash drives.
