Windows 10 device unexpectedly resumes operation after entering sleep mode
My computer wakes up from sleep mode unpredictably at various times. No clear pattern has been observed. This problem has persisted for several months, so it doesn’t seem related to the operating system version. The specifications are: Intel Core i7 7700K Gigabyte Z170X G1 Gaming Board, 16GB Corsair 2400MHz RAM, Nvidia GTX 970, 120GB Sandisk Boot SSD, 1TB Apacer SSD, 500GB WD HDD, Windows 10 Home 20H2. There’s a desk lamp still on continuously with an integrated ambient light sensor. I use RGB lights and a Logitech G25 racing wheel connected via USB all the time through its own power cable. Additionally, there’s a generic webcam and two HDMI monitors. Any advice would be appreciated as this is becoming quite bothersome.
I experienced the same problem on my laptop after months of investigation and testing. My monitor was off-center by two degrees—specifically, the right side was lower than the left—and this caused the mouse to vibrate slightly, which would jolt the computer awake. The term "move" here referred more to a vibration than actual motion. The only workaround I discovered was disconnecting the mouse from any USB connection before putting it into sleep mode, and gradually unplugging connected devices one by one to observe if it resolved the issue.
powercfg /lastwake helps identify the most recent device that activated your PC. Often, it relates to Wake On LAN, Wake On Alarm/Event, or Wake on Magic Packet settings in your UEFI or network card. Verify these options are turned off in your UEFI, if possible. In Windows, navigate to Device Manager, select Network Adapters, and double-click the active adapter. Check the relevant tabs for "Advanced" or "Power Management," and uncheck the box labeled "Allow this device to wake the computer." If this doesn’t resolve it, it may be your mouse that triggers the wake-up; disable it via Device Manager under Mice and other pointing devices, then confirm the settings.
