There's a Hanna Montana distro too. It's linux so basically your imagination is the limit at that point.

He wants to use the system, but isn’t familiar with Linux. I should stick with Windows 10. I can add more RAM if needed. Both slots are full—0.5 GB and 1 GB—so I’ll swap in 0.5 GB and install 4 GB. It should work, thanks!

It doesn’t require deep Linux knowledge. A setup like Mint with Cinnamon DE is quite straightforward. ChromeOS is another choice. Opt for alternatives to Windows if you want better performance on that old laptop.

Completely contrary to what most Linux users claim, I believe nearly every Windows release would likely be better.

Chrome works well on older devices when you only need a web browser.

- Check if the laptop supports Windows 10.
- Download the official Windows 10 installation media from Microsoft.
- Follow the on-screen instructions carefully.
- Make sure your laptop meets the system requirements.
- If needed, use a USB drive to install the OS.
You’re doing the right thing by wanting to give your dad the best experience.

He would need to grasp Linux if he installs Arch. However, if OP is clever and sets up Mint or another straightforward OS with a familiar interface, it becomes very manageable. I still believe Linux or ChromeOS offers the strongest choice.

It’s actually smarter to purchase a $50 laptop from eBay featuring a first-generation Core i3. This device won’t function properly. How will your dad handle it? Internet use is essentially impossible.
