I came home from work expecting to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. When I turned on my PC, I realized the Get Windows 10 app was missing and nothing else was working. The diagnostic tool indicated that KB2976978 was missing, but it was already installed. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling it without success. Anyone have any suggestions?

Head into Windows Update and check for updates. Are you seeing the folder that Windows is keeping the unpacked ISO in? There's a news thread here where people are actively troubleshooting installs

Let's try again with different phrasing.

It resolved itself after a few restarts. I powered off the PC completely and performed a cold boot. The icon appeared again. Nice fix!
