Because the LAN drivers on the CD are usually the latest versions, and they function properly, but you can't access the internet to install additional drivers without first having the LAN drivers installed.

If someone couldn't install the LAN drivers on their own, you'd need to use a CD or connect to another computer to obtain them first.

The album features the most ancient release of the software. It seems some folks either skip effort or aren't paying attention.

Absolutely, you're right. LAN drivers don't usually receive daily updates like antivirus software. They might get minor fixes soon after release, but often remain unchanged for a while. The versions on CD tend to match those available online, as updates are infrequent—sometimes only every few years. Performance improvements aren’t typically added, unlike GPU drivers where updates can be more frequent. The motherboard CD usually provides the most up-to-date software, and you can always download newer versions once connected to the internet if needed. It’s pretty rare to see a LAN driver updated regularly unless you’re very particular about having the latest version.

But why take that chance? And you're going to update the newest drivers anyway. It seems absurd to me to have outdated, new, and generic drivers installed. The only thought that comes to mind is someone simply avoids doing it. That’s laziness. There’s nothing wrong with being lazy—just like I’m not lazy about laundry or cooking, I’m not lazy about computers.

Without these outdated network drivers, connecting to the internet and installing the newest ones could be difficult.

But why install the outdated version initially? Don’t you think it’s better to start with the newest driver available online? It doesn’t make sense to rely on old drivers unless you specifically need them.

I really don’t agree with this. It seems like anyone who builds a computer already owns one, or has at least someone in their family or circle who can borrow a machine for an hour to get what they need. The idea that “I don’t have access to a computer” isn’t true anymore. There’s a much stronger reason not to own any family or friends without a computer.

If doing this later is faster since you’ve overlooked making a USB stick or your family is far away (I relocated to a place to be with my now-wife, and none of my friends are within an hour’s drive), opting for a CD makes sense. With multiple machines, I just figure out what I need and create a USB stick on the spot. Not everyone has more than one system, and for some, there won’t be anyone nearby or close enough to borrow a PC. Once the LAN ports are up, you can install the latest drivers. Everyone’s situation is different—don’t let it get you upset.
