Your Windows 10 is currently tied to your 1TB hard drive. Moving the drive to a new PC won’t automatically transfer the OS unless you reinstall it. The activation status depends on whether the drive remains connected and recognized properly. You’ll need to reinstall Windows or use a recovery tool to restore it correctly.

If the equipment is significantly different, Windows might fail to start or shut down automatically.

Yes, you can. However, there is no guarantee it will still be activated. If you have an OEM (Prebuilt) machine right now, it is almost certain it will become deactivated. If you call microsoft and whine for a while, you can probably get em to let you keep it, but it'll be a pain If you purchased that windows license, if you build your new PC and it tells you it's not activated, you can call microsoft and use their automated tool, most likely. Just remember when they ask how many times you've used this code/how many computers it's been used for, you say one. That normally works. Otherwise, just whine for a while again and they'll probably capitulate. So if you're willing to take a small risk and spend the time, you can do it. But it is a pain, and dealing with the old software/drivers and all that from the old system is a pain. i'd probably just grab a cheap key and do fresh, tbh

It's feasible that your system is detecting itself on the motherboard. If you're replacing the board, you can contact Microsoft to update your registration. For OEM licenses, you may need to persuade support to handle the transfer. With a pre-built laptop, the drive won't be compatible for transfer.

Windows may turn itself off, but linking your license to your Microsoft account on the current machine can restore it. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-re-ac...are-change
