Observed issues on a few office machines upgraded to Windows 10 version 1909 via the update assistant. After installation and multiple restarts, the search functionality in the start menu fails—clicking the search icon or typing after clicking "Start" doesn't work. File searches remain functional, but the taskbar search isn't responding. The Windows search feature itself is unresponsive, and attempts to refresh the system haven't resolved the problem. Anyone familiar with this situation? Have you discovered a solution or workaround?

havent seen this, but i havent needed the update assistant as of yet. i'd suggest the usual fix: - open cmd as admin ad typoe 'sfc /scannow' any particular reason why you'd need update assistant?

1909 is typically installed through the Windows Update service, which is straightforward.

Indeed, though on certain devices they don’t automatically detect or download the update without issues. I suspect the update assistant might be the source of this issue, which I noticed isn’t a problem on machines that receive updates through Windows Update.

It's just regular windows updates. Expect it to function after a restart. But if the problem persists after updating, reinstalling Windows might be necessary. I've faced the same issue on my personal PC recently.

No reboots helped, I gave up and installed a vanilla Windows 10 from a bootable USB (the machine was a Lenovo laptop). It works now on version 1909. I still believe Microsoft should improve their update assistant—it’s really lacking!

It happens for a reason when updates fail or aren't recognized. Windows Update prevents incompatible upgrades, which is its standard approach. Moving forward, the best method is to confirm all drivers and software are current, then verify compatibility with the latest Windows 10 version. Pushing updates carries risk—you choose what you receive.
