Win10 HID mouse issues :( Plus a quick question
Hello! I'm facing some issues with my mouse while using Windows 10 x64. The problem happens unexpectedly, usually within five hours, and can occur anywhere from 0 to 3 or 4 times. Sometimes the cursor freezes, making it hard to click left or right. Other times, the cursor becomes overly sensitive—around 1600 DPI compared to my preferred 400—and its detection range increases significantly. When lifting the mouse, the pointer shifts position randomly.
Temporary solutions include unplugging and plugging the device back in (works), or disabling and enabling the HID driver in Device Manager (hasn't helped before). This issue mostly appears when I pause moving the mouse for a few seconds. It doesn’t happen on Linux systems like Ubuntu or Windows 7 x64.
I’ve tried reinstalling the mouse driver, tested all USB ports including 3.0v, adjusted DPI and LOD settings, checked Windows file integrity, uninstalled related software, and even booted in Safe Mode. After an hour of testing, the problem disappeared—possibly just a coincidence.
My setup includes:
- Zowie FK1 mouse plugged via USB2.0
- OCZ 600W power supply
- Gigabyte Z68a-B3-D3 i5 processor (2500kHz @ 4.5GHz)
- 16GB DDR3 RAM at 1600MHz
- GTX 970 graphics card at 1.4GHz / 7000MHz
- Seagate 500GB HDD and Crucial M550 SSD
I’m also curious if a leaking capacitor inside my motherboard could be causing these power or booting issues. Voltage readings on the 12V supply are normal (around +11.9V to +12.1V), and other lines look fine. I’ve attached some photos of what seems to be a damaged component. What do you think might be causing this?
You're wondering if the issue occurs when moving around and finding your mouse unresponsive. That’s a common concern, especially with older PS/2 mice. USB mice can also experience similar problems. As for the percentages—roughly half of the time it's the power supply, a quarter on the motherboard, and a small fraction on the components. Just a guess, but it might help.
Thanks for the update. It seems there isn’t a consistent pattern with my mice getting into this issue. Sometimes I watch short videos, then stop holding them and when I reach the second position before they move, LMB and RMB still function properly. I don’t believe it’s related to EMC, but I’ll try to recreate it.
