Can Windows 11 Pro and MS Office Professional Plus 2021 be installed on different drives? I prefer having my OS on one drive, while keeping other software/apps on another and storing data/files on a third.

Have you achieved this with previous iterations of Windows and earlier versions of Office? You may encounter numerous questions about the necessity.

It depends on how you obtained Office.
Some version allow installation on any drive.
Others do not give you a choice.
You see this during the install.
If it lets you, great.
Otherwise, no.
Personally, though, I see NO benefit in applications on a different drive than the OS.

All components of every installed software need to be on the OS drive. You cannot isolate just the operating system. If you aim to prevent reinstallation, you should avoid having the OS wiped and rebuilt entirely. Doing so would require a complete overhaul to recreate all the registry entries, making it unnecessary to keep apps on a separate drive. Data is fine, but apps aren't. The only exception would be Steam games.

Consider using two SSDs as partitions on a shared drive. One for OS and the other for other applications.

What exactly are you aiming to achieve in this situation? Your response remains the same in structure and intent.

It's unclear what the text means. I'm trying to interpret it, but it's hard to understand.

They present a stark contrast to my perspective. Perhaps that reflects my own shortcomings. Option 1 involved two distinct drives completely. Oprion 2 combined them into a single larger drive with a partition, aiming for threefold improvement. If a drive fails, only part of the system is affected, making repair or reinstallation simpler.

Speed remains unaffected in both setups.
Repair or reinstallation simplicity comes from a thorough backup process.
All drives are fully backed up, with automated saves to alternative locations.
System is fully automated and verified.
If any of the six physical drives failed, simply replace it and restore from the latest backup.
Contents are fully restored within two hours, regardless of whether the OS is on one drive, another, or all together.
Switching applications between drives doesn’t impact recovery.
Even during an OS installation, you’d still need to reinstall the apps.
Your data can also be safely stored on additional drives.

And if you choose option 2 and the drive with those partitions stops working, you lose everything on that drive. All of it.
