I have an old Lenovo ideapad 100 around 8 years old with Windows 10. It functions properly except it won't install updates anymore and has been stuck at 35% updates for months. I'm unsure how to resolve this problem. My concern is whether this will affect my external drive's performance. I purchased it in January and it's original. It has successfully burned several CDs and DVDs, but recently started having issues. The last two CDs played distorted sound on the final tracks, and the last DVD only burned the last file while ignoring the first three. Could this be a problem with the external drive or my old laptop? I've been using Cdburnerxp online, and it might be time to consider a new laptop. Thanks.

I've got an old Lenovo ideapad 100 that's about 8 years old. It has windows 10. It works fine except that it isn't installing updates anymore and has been stuck on 35% updates installed for months.
What version(not edition) of Windows 10 are you currently on?
https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/bd/en/produ...-100-14ibd
This says you have either a 250GB HDD or a 500 GB HDD or a 1TB HDD, which one do you have? Alongside an SSD. Can you pass on a screenshot of what you see in Disk Management?
It's an issue I don't know how to fix.
Have you tried recreating your bootable USB installer for the OS and reinstalling said OS?
To answer your question, it shouldn't hinder your ability to access the external drive.

The laptop is quite outdated. It likely only has a mechanical HDD, and this HDD is probably failing. You can view a screenshot from the HDtune health section by uploading it to imgur.com and posting the link. Get HDtune 2.55 for free.

Thank you for the assistance. Your laptop is becoming slow, which might be causing the external drive issues. I'm considering getting a new laptop. I'll update you once it works better.
