Will my downloaded files remain intact after upgrading to Windows 11?
I discovered the ASUS driver files for Windows 11 and am planning to switch from Windows 10. My concern is preserving my video game downloads across the three 3TB 7200 HDDs without an operating system, as they might be lost during the upgrade. The OS remains on my small M.2 SSD.
The operating system is installed on my limited capacity M.2 SSD.
If it's running on a different storage device, your downloads should remain intact—though we're discussing a Steam game library? Confirm that all other drives except the one you're setting up are disconnected.
For an upgrade via the internal route, you'll need to format and reinstall the OS yourself after the upgrade, as the process can encounter some internal issues. If you're installing Windows 11 by first formatting the drive from Windows 10, skip this previous note.
Ensure all other drives are removed from the system. Initiate a reliable backup procedure. It seems you may have only a single copy available—what steps would you take if that drive failed immediately?
