I haven't overclocked before, so I'm really not sure what the limits are. I don't have any specific advice on how much to push the system.

The i7-6700k lacks a built-in stock cooler. Are you using an Intel stock cooler from an i3 or i5 processor? In any case, the Intel stock cooler performs only moderately well for cooling non-overclocked i7 and isn't ideal for overclocking. Consider a better CPU cooler or abandon overclocking.

I purchased a pre-built unit from late last year that included an i7 6700 with a stock cooler. Would you like some suggestions for a cooler? You mentioned the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 is a good option, though it's a bit expensive.

i7-6700k lacks a built-in cooler, while i7-6700 does but doesn't support overclocking. Dark Rock Pro 4 is a solid choice. Other choices (though expensive) include Cryorig H5, H7, Noctua NH-D15 and NH-U14S.

I understand it wasn't possible to overclock, which is why I chose the K version.
I was searching for an option less expensive than the Dark Rock Pro 4, and thank you.
