I haven't been here much lately. After retiring and moving to the Philippines, I chose to construct another tower last year. It hasn't been there for a while, and I wasn't familiar with the specifications back then. My most recent build was around 2008—it performed exceptionally well at that time. Over the years, life changes have kept me away from a desktop since 2018.
My gaming is limited. I mostly watch videos, read US news (which isn't great), and play a few games. D-IV, World of Tanks, nothing special.
What I assembled:
- AMD 7600 CPU
- B650x Aorus Elite motherboard
- Crucial Pro 32GB DDR5 CL36 RAM at 3600 MHz
- Crucial T700 PCIe Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD (2TB)
- RX 6750 XT graphics card with 12GB GDDR6 memory
- 750W PSU
Everything worked smoothly until I realized my monitors couldn't handle 4K resolution at 1440p. That led me to buy two Rog Strix 27" dual-mode monitors. But when I checked, my GPU didn’t support 4K either. Eventually, I upgraded the motherboard and added an Asus Rog Strix X870E-E gaming Wi-Fi card.
The switch was smooth, and I ran benchmarks—results were decent, but it became clear my CPU was a bottleneck. Now I’m holding my breath for the arrival of an AMD Ryzen 7800X3D, hoping this will be the final upgrade. I’m a bit hopeful things will perform well.

What is the current BIOS version for your motherboard?
The advertised power supply unit wattage is 750, but its actual make, model, and age are unknown.
Consider purchasing a 1000W MSI PSU if you want better performance.
The 1000W MSI model you’re interested in is likely the 9070XT or RTX 5070Ti for higher resolution gaming.
A Crucial Pro 32GB DDR5 CL36 RAM with 3600 MHz is ideal for AM5 systems, especially with AMD’s E.X.P.O.
Upgrading your motherboard might be beneficial—Asus Rog Strix X870E-E is a good option.
You likely didn’t need to replace the board itself; simply installing the 7800X3D on the existing Gigabyte board would work.
After replacing the motherboard, you’ll need to reinstall the operating system and create a bootable USB installer, disconnecting all drives except the one for installation in offline mode.
Ram shared his experience about mistakenly entering 3600 ram, thinking it was 6000MHZ, and mentioned the confusion in his mind. He also talked about the PSU, the Mag 1000 motherboard, and the updated BIOS. He decided to reinstall the OS with a new motherboard after experiencing issues with the original one.
The 3D cache will have a noticeable impact. An AIO would be recommended for cooling. The 7800X3D employs a distinct cache stack compared to the 9800X3D and operates on a warmer platform.
That being said, optimization has become so lacking that most components will only last a few years at best. In short, the 7800X3D is useful now but not for long-term use.
I didn't say it before, but I'm using AIO cooling. The heat problem isn't there.
