I recently attempted to overclock my i7 7700k using various vcore and CPU ratio settings, but it often led to failures and freezing, requiring a forced restart. Could this process harm the CPU or motherboard? The maximum temperature reached was around 60 to 70 degrees Celsius.

Things might turn bad, so I won’t keep doing it too much.

You're looking to determine the optimal settings for Vcore, CPU multiplier, and LLC.

actually, now when i think about it, the bsod will not harm your hardware, but it might affect your system files. if bsod occurs in windows, the system won't shut down properly and could lead to damage of your system files, possibly preventing you from booting into windows altogether.

Adding to this, the proper method is to perform a CheckDisk error check immediately after a BSOD crash on the SYSTEM drive (at least). It often shows 'no errors found', but the process is fast enough to provide reassurance.
In the Cortana search box, enter "CheckDisk" and launch CheckDisk.exe.
EDIT note: this only functions with Glary Utilities installed.
For standard Windows10, open 'This PC', right-click the system drive, then choose Properties/Tools/Check. If errors are detected it will prompt for a restart to resolve them.
