Will a 3.5" HDD enclosure be compatible with optical discs?
Will a 3.5" HDD enclosure be compatible with optical discs?
I am currently looking for one like the Vantec, for attaching with 5.25 drives:
NexStar DX2 USB 3.0 External Enclosure for SATA Blu-Ray/CD/DVD Drive
Design for 5.25" Blu-Ray/CD/DVD drive Super Speed USB 3.0 transfer rate Plug and Play, No drivers needed Aluminum Alloy Casing for reduced noise and vibration Hot swappable for system equipped with USB port For any System with USB Mass Storage Device Support

But I was only able to find 3.5 HDD enclosures, SATA/IDE. My question is simple: will these work somehow with Blu-ray/DVD drives? Or even if they work, there's a risk the drive will not fit?
Example:

A 5.25" ODD won't fit in a 3.5" space. The only option is to connect via the SATA to USB port, which will need to be fully exposed.
You're correct, the Vantec model matches those specifications, while the Pioneer drive's dimensions are different: 148 mm wide, 42.3 mm high, and 181 mm deep. The Vantec fits all of them, but not the 3.5 HDD enclosure, possibly only one of three options. We should consider both the enclosure size and the drive specifications.
